Fundraising for Manchester

It seems to be an all too common theme in 2017 when it comes to tragedy, but what we have also seen is people pulling together to help others.

The tragic bombing at the Manchester Arena touched the hearts and emotions of everyone. Whitby Morrison were approached to help with a fundraiser at Nantwich Town in support of the victims and their families. With Manchester being just half an hour away, there was (very sadly) personal tragedy being supported too.

At the start of July, a whole host of fun activities were put on for visitors to the Weaver Stadium and the weather played it’s part too!

In the space of a couple of hours, Whitby Morrison were pleased to raise nearly £500 by giving away free ice cream, contributing to a total of around £2000.

None of us ever wants to face tragedy but when it strikes, it’s nice to have the chance to help those affected.

Whitby Morrison in the community

Regular readers of the Whitby Morrison Newsletter will know just how highly we value the community around us. As with anything in life, it is important to treat others as you’d wish to be treated yourself, and when it comes to the community – it’s important to give something back.

Over the past month, we at Whitby Morrison have helped out at a number of school fairs, educational courses, village fetes and BBQs, family fun days at Crewe Alexandra FC as well as supporting events such as Crewe TrAction in the town.

We’ve raised several thousand pounds for various causes and charities through these efforts – and even more rewarding has been the smiles on the faces of those people we’ve been able to help!

10 out of 10 for Nathan

Taking on the experienced Antonio Sousa of Portugal, Nathan won by TKO in the 5th round at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

The victory reaffirmed his position as No.6 in the UK Heavyweight rankings and leaves him nicely placed ahead of his English Title fight in October.

We’ll bring you more details in the lead up to his next fight.

Heritage Ice Cream Vans: Colicci Commer Bantam

Having been spoilt by Alfonso’s Rocket in the June Newsletter you’d think it would be nigh on impossible to follow up the heritage section this month. Well thankfully, that is not the case!

Take a look at this stunning Commer Bantam, built for Colicci in London. Featuring the latest holdover system and a fully working soft ice cream setup, this vintage ice cream van is as good as any we have ever produced.

As with many Whitby Morrison heritage restorations, the Commer arrived to us as a flatbed delivery truck. A new hardwood timber frame was constructed and finished with aluminium panelling, before being painted. The interior was kitted out in a custom Formica style to compliment the age of the vehicle and its branding.

On departure from the Whitby Morrison factory, it went straight into action at the Chelsea Flower Show and can now be found working in the Royal parks in London.

Using ice cream to help in the time of tragedy

The UK has been hit by a number of tragedies over the past month or so. It’s a sad situation when it takes something so hard hitting to pull us all together – but having done that, ice cream has proven its worth once gain in bringing joy to people’s faces.

After the suicide bombing at Manchester Arena former Mobiler of the Year Moz Murray, has enlisted the support of other ice cream men and ladies. As things begin to settle a little, Moz and his team will travel around the Manchester area to give away ice cream to those affected by the bombing and in particular to the emergency services who acted so selflessly that night.

Whilst we at Whitby Morrison can’t join the convoy, we will be pleased to support each Mobiler taking part by offering a free machine service as a thank you for such a kind gesture.

For those of you who regularly attend the Whitby Event in Nantwich, we’ll be supporting the event at the football ground for their family fun day in early July by giving away ice cream for free.

We’ll be asking for donations – all of which will be donated to the Manchester charities.

Aside from the terror related tragedies in Manchester and London, the horrific Grenfell Tower fire caught the attention of everyone worldwide. An unknown number of people lost their lives, including many children.

A number of Mobilers have visited the site to offer ice cream in support of those who have been left homeless and with little hope and support. The ice cream industry may not be able to change their lives (that lies with the government) but it’s amazing what an ice cream can do to raise a smile and make someone feel good.

Jimmy Berisha took his ice cream van to Grenfell and gave away ice cream with the support of Francos and Bejays. Other Mobilers undertook a similar initiative including Onur Ali and Mark and Rob Ellinor – great examples of the many kind hearted people in Mobiling.

New Road Safety initiative from Chris Copner

Abergavenny Mobiler Chris Copner has come up with goods once again with the latest instalment to his fantastic road safety initiative.

Having written the brilliant Children’s book ‘Pinky & Friends’ and had a poster published for Mobilers to use in their vans, Chris has had a fantastic leaflet produced to further reinforce the road safety message. This will be supported with a brand-new poster too!

The leaflets are very child friendly and have proven very helpful in building a relationship between many Mobilers and their local schools.

The leaflet will soon be available for download from the Whitby Morrison website and hard copies available from Chris in the not too distant future.

Well done Chris, you’re a brilliant asset to this industry.
